ALE Simulations of Laser Driven Target Acceleration in Channel
The Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) methods are becoming very popular for simulations of laser-plasma simulations. A typical ALE method consists of three steps: a Lagrangian solver, advancing the solution to the next time step; a rezoner, improving geometrical quality of the computational mesh; and a remapper, interpolating conservatively all fluid quantities from the Lagrangian to the rezo...
متن کاملArbitrary Lagrangian-eulerian (ale) Code for Plasma Simulations
Lagrangian codes with mesh moving with the fluid suffer in many cases by mesh distortion leading to tangled mesh which in principle stops the computation as basic assumptions of the numerical method as e.g. positive volume of cells are not valid any more. Arbitrary LagrangianEulerian (ALE) method overcomes this difficulty by untangling or smoothing the mesh and conservative remapping of conserv...
متن کاملUntangling of 2D meshes in ALE simulations
A procedure is presented to untangle unstructured 2D meshes containing inverted elements by node repositioning. The inverted elements may result from node movement in Arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian (ALE) simulations of continuum mechanics problems with large shear deformation such as fluid flow and metal forming. Meshes with inverted elements may also be created due to the limitations of mesh ge...
متن کاملMethod of Laser-radiation Guiding in Plasma
PACS number(s): 52.40.Mj, 52.40.Nk The progress in the technology of high-intensity lasers opens new opportunities for use of lasers in many branches of science and industry. Last years the chirped-pulse amplification technique [1] permitted the production of subpicosecond laser pulses of multiterrawatt power with peak intensity up to 10W/cm [2]. With intensities as such we practically have to ...
متن کاملImproved particle statistics for laser-plasma self-injection simulations
We describe methods for improving the accuracy of injected particle beams by selectively enhancing the particle statistics in particle-in-cell simulations, using reduced model computations as a guide. We demonstrate convergence of key beam parameters in two dimensions, and show improved noise properties in three dimensions.
